Biker babe has prime possie
It was perfect weather for 1800 Wellington cyclists - including Jack Unwin, 3, and his mother Rachel - who joined Mayor Kerry Prendergast for a ride around the city’s harbour.
Yesterday’s event was part of the Mayoral Challenge, in which the country’s mayors vie to see who can get the
most people riding bikes.
Wellington organiser Leanne Chivers said the ride was a big success, with a huge turnout.
Cyclists started from Frank Kitts Park and had the choice of riding 5km, 13km or 32km.
Ms Chivers said 60 per cent of entrants rode the longest distance around Miramar Peninsula.
Last year’s Mayoral Challenge attracted 8000 riders nationwide and was won by New Plymouth’s Peter Tennant,
who involved more than 2000 cyclists.
